The Naselle girls volleyball team has gotten off to a great start to its season by winning its first three contests. Beginning with a three-set sweep (25-20, 25-12, 25-18) against Battle Ground’s Columbia Adventist Academy (CAA) on Sept. 4, Naselle was led by Jessie Smith’s 24 assists and four aces. Sophia Colombo led the team with seven digs, and Haylee Rose set the standard with 10 kills. Sadie Kilponen had six digs to help out Naselle, while Mylee Dunagan and Brooke Davis had six kills apiece. The girls continued with another three-set sweep (25-21, 25-21, 25-14) against Taholah on Sept. 9. Davis led the squad with five aces and eight kills, while Colombo led the girls with 16 digs. Kilponen contributed with 12 digs, Smith led the way again in assists with 13. Rose rounded out the stats with a team-leading four blocks to go along with her five kills, and Dunagan contributed three blocks in the win. The girls had yet another three-set sweep (25-13, 25-14, 25-14) last Thursday, Sept. 11 against Wishkah. Smith led the team in both aces and assists with 10 and 11 respectively. Sha also added three digs in the effort. Dunagan led the team in kills with six, while Davis ended with five kills and Colombo had a well-balanced match with three aces, four assists, and three digs.
The Comets (3-0) traveled to Willapa Valley Tuesday, Sept. 16, but the results were not available at the time of press. The girls return home Thursday, Sept. 18 to host Elma’s Mary M. Knight at 7 p.m. and will host Ocosta on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
