Clatskanie volleyball wins sixth in a row

The Clatskanie Tigers girls volleyball team is off to a perfect start (5-0) in league play and is in the midst of its longest win streak of the season following last week's win over Gaston. Since falling 3-2 to Delphia three weeks ago, the girls have not lost a single set, let alone match, against their five opponents. Hosting Aloha's Faith Bible Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 16, the girls came away with a three-set sweep (25-12, 25-10, 25-12). Senior Joey Sizemore led the team in kills with 14 and co- led in aces alongside junior Peyton Krueger with eight each. Sizemore also led the team with seven digs and had two saves to round out the match. Junior Lacey Willis contributed nine kills and four digs, and senior Mya Jensen came away with six kills, four digs, an ace, and no errors. Junior setter Addy Compton led the team with 25 assists on 50 attempts, and Krueger had 22 points over the three sets to help the cause.

The girls then traveled to Gaston Thursday, Sept. 18 to take on the Greyhounds. Once again, the Tigers swept the three sets (25-13, 25-9, 25-14). Compton led the team in assists again with 20 to go along with her two aces and solo kill. Krueger led the team with seven aces, throwing in a stuff block and executing two kills. Serving as libero, junior McKinsey Doyle led the team with eight digs. Committing zero errors, Willis had 11 kills and six digs, while Sizemore led the team once again with 13 kills and two stuff blocks to go along with her four aces.

The Tigers (9-1) returned home Tuesday to take on Knappa, but the results were not available at the time of press. The girls travel to Columbia Christian Thursday, Sept. 25 before returning home Saturday, Sept. 27 to take on Nestucca at 12:30 p.m. inside the Clatskanie High School gym.
