Eagle to commence candidate coverage Oct. 16

The general elections in Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County will be taking place Tuesday, Nov. 4. Beginning Thursday, Oct. 16, The Wahkiakum County Eagle will be printing a page each week dedicated to the two candidates for Wahkiakum County Sheriff, Wahkiakum County Assessor, and Mayor of Cathlamet. Running for sheriff are candidates John Mason and Josh Grasseth. Running for assessor are candidates Drew Jenkins and Justin Moriarty. Running for Mayor of Cathlamet are candidates Nicholas Sevald and Laurel Waller.

These candidates are presented with the same question for their respective position each week and are given both a word limit and deadline before which their responses must be submitted. We have instructed each candidate to provide us with a response of no more than 200 words. We have also advised them to revise their responses thoroughly, as we at The Eagle will not be doing any kind of revision ourselves. The responses have to be exactly as submitted by each candidate so as not to create suspicion of any form of favoritism.

The responses to the first of the three questions will be posted in the Thursday, Oct. 16 edition of The Eagle, and the responses to the remaining two questions will be posted in the Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 editions of The Eagle respectively. Another important date to keep in mind is Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m., as the Grays River Grange (11 Hull Creek Rd., Grays River) will be hosting a candidates forum. Doors open at 5:30 and the forum begins at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and the forum will be moderated by Grange officers.

As the election season approaches, please note two of The Eagle’s guidelines regarding letters to the editor. Guideline No. 3 states, “letters should address issues and refrain from personal attack or character assassination. Guideline No. 4 states, “political or election-based letters will be run until the week prior to the election.”

We at The Eagle would like to wish the best of luck to all of the candidates. We will do our best to notify readers and subscribers of any meetings taking place between now and election day.
