Sheriff's Report

SUNSHINE RETURNS. Well, after a couple of very wet days and some very foggy mornings, we are back to bright sunshine as I write this, and it should be nice for several days... awesome. The bad news is that, by the time you read this, it appears there will be a string of wet days lasting four days, so I hope you got your yard work done at the beginning of the week while it was nice and sunny! Thanks to the rain we had earlier, the burn ban has been lifted, and four of the next five days look to be fairly damp, so that should get our forests well-watered and those dry-looking lawns a bit greener too. Considering there are still several massive fires burning, I'll take the rain and feel better that our surrounding forests are good and wet.

BINGO TIME. This coming Saturday is the second Saturday of the month, which means it is Bingo time over on Puget Island at the Norse Hall, located at 444 SR 409. The lower-level basement door will open at 5:30 p.m., and the Bingo games will start at 6 p.m. They hope to see you there. It's great fun, and winning cash prizes is even more fun. Here's to Bingo!

JUST NEXT SATURDAY. The time is flying by and the Wine and Auction event held by the Friends of Skamokawa is taking place next Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Rat Tap Bar in Cathlamet. It will be here before you know it so get your tickets at the hall, the store here in Skamokawa, the Chamber of Commerce, or the Rat Tap Bar in Cathlamet.

NEW DATE FOR PCA EVENT. As most of you are aware, the Pioneer Community Association had to cancel their Auction with a twist due to illness. However, they have rescheduled the event for October 25 at 4:30 p.m. at Norse Hall. Tickets are $15 at the door, but if you go to their website and buy them early, you will also receive a complimentary glass of wine or beer. It's a Silent Auction with a Twist fundraiser, and so they will not only have a wonderful array of appetizers from Maria's, The Spar, JJ's Pizza and Mohr and the Duck Inn, but they will also be featuring a Musical Cabaret showcasing our local talent. It sounds like a lot of fun. The event will be on the last Saturday of this month, so put it on your calendar today!

HALLOWEEN DOINGS HERE. I do hope you'll bring all your kids to the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., for a Halloween Carnival and Trunk or Treat event. Spread the word, bring your children, and enjoy a fun and safe time together!

SHOP WITH A COP. I mentioned earlier that the annual Shop with a Cop event will take place at the Duck Inn on Friday, November 1, which is the day after Halloween. I really hope all you grownups will come out that Saturday night to support our local kids so they can have an amazing Christmas! I also hope you'll consider donating an item, a basket, gift certificates, or anything else you think folks would bid on. It would truly be appreciated. I spoke with the host, Logan Britt, at the Duck Inn, and he said you can drop off items at any time. Shop with a Cop is where our community comes together to help make dreams come true for kids.

SYMPATHIES. I saw that Ralph Keyser and Wilma Patching recently passed away, and we were truly sorry to hear of their passing. They were blessed to live long lives, but for their families, that doesn't lessen the pain of losing them. A service for Ralph was already held on October 8, and Wilma did not want one, but we send our deepest sympathies to all of their family members. We hope they will hold onto the many wonderful memories they shared with their loved ones over the years.
