With Medicare enrollment having begun Oct. 15, local Farmers Insurance Agent James Sorensen also serves as a broker for the program. Having worked with Medicare the past three years, Sorensen, understanding the difficulty enrollers face, said, "The biggest problem with Medicare is that these people who are getting into it, they are so overindundated with information. They're bombarded with emails and phone calls...It can be extremely overwhelming, but I'm here in this community. I have been here since June of 2020. People in this situation can come to me and sit down in person on Main Street. I can explain the differences in their options if they'd like. I can compare the plans available to them and help people make the right decisions for them. I'm not captive to one company, which means I can be objective and make sure people get the right coverage specific to their needs."
Sorensen says the main mistake people make is "they just roll with it." As a self-proclaimed "glorified application filler outer guy," Sorensen looks to help answer the ever-present question of "is it going to be covered" as best as he can.
"I have access to the available plans that we have here in Wahkiakum County, and it's really as simple as getting some basic information from them," said Sorensen. "I can get them into whichever route they want to go."
Acting as the local, one-stop shop for the area, Sorensen is all too ready to not only get the word out for Medicare seekers but those looking to fill their insurance needs as well. "I've been in Cathlamet for close to six years, and I'll still hear people say, "I didn't know that there was an insurance agency in this town,'" said Sorensen. I'm on Main Street. I can help you out."
Medicare enrollment runs through Sunday, Dec. 7. Sorensen's office is located at 102 Main St., Ste. 202 in Cathlamet. For more info, call 360-795-3276.
