To The Eagle,
In 2018, while in his 60’s, Bill Coons successfully ran for the County Assessor position. He largely separated himself from the other, younger candidate by stressing the value of his experience and local knowledge. I agreed and supported him accordingly. It turned out to be a good choice and Bill’s experience capably led us through some tough years.
Laurel Waller retired from a business management career, where she worked with business plans and people. She is fiscally prudent, and has both a deep personal and business commitment to Cathlamet. Besides facilitating efforts with the County Commissioners, the PUD, and our Town Council, she has consistently pushed back against the current Mayor’s spending issues. Moreover, her singular persistence fortunately led to the PUD taking over the Town’s ongoing Utility operations. This will save the Town what will ultimately be millions of dollars. We should all be very thankful!
Drew Jenkins, too, has a wealth of information, his being regarding property valuations and assessments. Besides over 20 plus years evaluating both commercial and residential property, he spent his last several professional years working in our own County’s Assessor Department. He’s energetic, likable, understanding, and knows most of our properties, histories, owners, and nuances. These qualities are primarily learned through exposure, and familiarity, and over time.
The Town is totally broke. The County is struggling, too, and laying off staff in most every department. We need pro’s at every level. So, consistent with Bill’s sage advice in 2018 regarding the value of experience and knowledge, please join me in November by voting for Laurel Waller as Mayor, and Drew Jenkins as our County Assessor.
Bill Wainwright,
Cathlamet
