Tigers lose first conference game

Going into last Friday's game at Portland Christian, the Clatskanie girls volleyball team had lost only twice all season, and both losses were to non-conference opponents. The perfect 21-0 conference would finally get a blemish with a three-set sweep (24-26, 18-25, 14-25) at the hands of the Royals. In a losing effort, junior Lacey Willis led the Tigers with 15 kills and four blocks. She also had an ace and three digs to round out her night. Senior Joey Sizemore had 11 kills, 10 digs, two saves, a block, and an ace, and junior libero McKinsey Doyle led the team with 11 digs and five aces. Junior Addy Compton led the team with 21 assists and had 10 digs, an ace, and a kill in the defeat.

Friday's loss followed two straight three-set sweeps by Clatskanie against Columbia Christian (25-20, 25-13, 25-8) on Thursday, Oct. 16, and Knappa (25-16, 25-7, 25-8) on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Senior Mya Jensen led the girls in kills with 12 and aces with five. Jensen also had five digs in the win. Willis led the team in kills again with 11 and also led the team with two blocks. Demonstrating, as Head Coach Amanda Baker would describe as "absolute perfection on serve/receive," Willis also had three digs in the win. Junior Olivia George and senior Mikey Simpson had five and three kills respectively, while Sizemore had five digs, three kills, and three aces. Compton led the team in assists with 26 and added two aces and a kill in the win.

According to Baker, the Tigers (21-3) host the #3 seed team Thursday, Oct. 23. The results of Thursday's match will be available in next week's edition of The Wahkiakum County Eagle.
