As of Tuesday, Dec. 16, the only roads remaining unopened in Wahkiakum County were Eden Valley Rd. and the west end of Loop Road, both of which had water "over the roadway." Last week, President Trump approved an emergency declaration for the state of Washington. "The emergency declaration allows us to work with agencies outside of the county, including higher levels of government - both state and federal - to provide assistance for emergency response and recovery," said Wahkiakum County Emergency Management Coordinator Austin Smith. "Looking forward into the weekend, the National Weather Service is projecting that we will see around 2-4 inches of rain through Friday in Wahkiakum County, as well as the potential for wind gusts of 50+ mph. As our local rivers and streams are already quite high, we may see additional minor to moderate flooding impacts through the week and into the weekend which will close roads again. Also, with continued precipitation and wind events through the week, we have the potential for landslides and power outages." For more info, visit co.wahkiakum.was.us/198/Emergency-Management.
