    The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team has dedicated October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and their entire 2014 season to a beloved local woman, Brandi Knowles Thomas, who lost a long battle with breast cancer in September.     On September 26, the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office was able to identify formally the two people who died in the head on collision on Ocean Beach Highway near Mill Creek on September 23. The driver of the Subaru Forester was Nanette L'Amie-Bupp, 63, and her passenger was Michael L. Howell, 51. Both were residents of Cathlamet.     The Sons of Norway got its start in the community when in 1911, three local young Norwegian American men began to attend Sons of Norway meetings in Astoria.     The District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance were called out early Sunday morning when a structure fire was reported in the Rosedale area.     The first Fall Fishing Frenzy Salmon Derby was organized this year by a group of citizens who are concerned about the youth in our community and wanted to do something to help.
