NICE WEEKEND--Our heat wave has continued and once again we've had some pretty doggone nice weather with only a hint of dampness last Thursday morning, but by afternoon, the sun was up and shining again and it warmed right back up. The fact that we've had over 80 inches of rain this year, makes it hard to believe that our dry spell has already caused our lawns to turn brown! BEEN WARM--By the time you read this, you may have experienced a little drizzle this morning, but forecasters weren't sure, and if it were to show up, it wouldn't be much. While some areas haven't had any sprinkles, we did manage a few last week when no one else did. Needless to say, the fire danger is high and it's important to take extra care to prevent a dangerous situation. DRY SPELL--Last Friday was the beginning of the burn ban for our area, and with all this dry weather we've been having, and blazes all over the western states, it's definitely not the time to be lighting a fire to burn any brush. PRETTY NICE--The first weekend in July was pretty doggone nice, as we had temperatures in the 70's and a nice breeze, so that was much more to my liking than those higher temps we had a short while ago. HEAT WAS ON!--The forecasters were right when they said it was going to be a warm one this past weekend, as it was plenty hot out here in West Valley! The cloud cover and cooler temps on Monday made for a much more comfortable and welcomed relief from the heat. SLIGHT CORRECTION--If you read my column last week, you would see where the WCHS Museum in Cathlamet is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., but unfortunately, the "header" on my column said it was open on Friday and Saturday, which is not correct. NOT QUITE SO GOOD--The really warm, super nice, really good weekend that was supposed to have taken place over Father's Day weekend, didn't quite turn out the way they first predicted it would, at least not here. SO-SO--It depended on where you were this past weekend as to what kind of weather you had. For some, it wasn't a bad day at all, while for others, it was a day of some sunshine accompanied by various rain showers. NOT TOO BAD--It wasn't blazing hot this weekend, but by golly, it was just about perfect for the car buffs that showed up as last year's scalding temperatures were replaced with much milder, and more comfortable ones for the annual Rods and Reels Rod Run that happened this past Saturday! A MIX--We had some pretty warm days last weekend, but by the time you read this, it's supposed to have cooled down and maybe even rained, so we have really had some "yo-yo" weather around here lately! SUPER NICE--We certainly couldn't complain about the weekend weather, unless you don't like the sunshine and warmth that went with it! Temperatures were in the mid-70's on Saturday, so it wasn't totally miserable, but then they went up and they were in the mid-80's on Sunday. SO-SO--This past weekend was Mother's Day weekend and I hope everyone had an enjoyable time in spite of some of the weather we had. WILD ONE--Depending on where you were this past week, you may have had some really crazy weather, which included lots of wind, rain, hail or if you were headed over an area of higher elevation, even some snow! While we had a slight blip in our power and several bumps, we didn't have a major outage here, but I know lots of other areas certainly did. OFF AND ON--Last Friday was a gorgeous day and some folks were even enjoying a nice Saturday right from the start, but for those of us here in Skamokawa, it began as a cool, drippy, cloudy and well, not all that great of a beginning. Luckily, by late afternoon, the clouds parted and the sun peeked out, so that was enjoyable while it lasted, as the rains returned once again that evening. SOGGY--As this week begins, it's a very soggy Sunday indeed. Saturday saw some breaks in the rain at least, but if you ask me, Sunday was just a good day to hunker down and stay put inside where it was nice and dry! The week looks to be fairly soggy until we possibly get a dry day on Friday, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that we can shed the rain gear and boots and soak in some sun rays as this third month of the year comes to an end; it's flying by! NASTY START--This past weekend began with a miserable start, as it rained and then blew some, and rained again. COLD SHOT--This past weekend we had another little cold spell, and yes, we did indeed see some snow falling but it didn't last too long down here. Beaver Creek had four new inches of snow by Sunday morning, so I was glad it was up there and not down here! MIXED BAG--As February came to an end, we've had some sun, some rain, some hail, some snow and some very cold temperatures, so we've had it all it seems! CHANGES--I think all of us in this area could agree that last Friday, Feb. 17, was just a gorgeous day! It was a "get outside, take a walk, hoorah for the sunshine" kind of day; very nice! MUCH DIFFERENT--This past weekend we saw some sunshine and much more pleasant conditions than the last one. No white stuff, yeah! It was nice to catch a break after all the snow and rain, which led to road closures and tons of trees coming down, so a huge relief there. NOT NICE--The weekend began with lots of rain and temps in the 40s, so when I went to bed on Saturday night to pouring rain and 45 degree temps, I didn't think much of it, other than I knew I'd wake up to a "lake" Sunday morning.
