NICE AND NIPPY--We have had some nice Fall days lately, as the sun has been shining since last Friday and it's been great. The nippy evenings caught some of us by surprise, as it was below freezing a couple nights and a thick layer of frost sparkled in the morning sunlight; a reminder that winter is on the way. We need to start thinking about getting ourselves prepared for whatever the next few months brings us. HALF AND HALF--What a difference a day made in our weekend. On Saturday it was pouring down rain all day, a real soaker, but on Sunday, after a brief bit of morning drizzle, it was time to shed the rain gear and kick off the boots to strut around in sleeveless tops while enjoying a BBQ on the patio. NOT BAD--The evenings are a bit crisp, but the days have been pretty pleasant. While I kept expecting rain with those clouds we had on Saturday, it never showed up and the sun was shining brightly on Sunday after the morning fog, so that was a nice surprise as I thought for sure we'd be seeing some rain by then. FALL IS HERE--The leaves are falling, the rains seem to visit us on more days than the sun and our days turn into nights before eight p.m. these days, so I'm thinking, Summer is definitely over and Fall is here! WET ONE--As I begin this column this Tuesday morning, it is mighty wet here in West Valley. This took me by surprise after such a beautiful Monday evening which seemed to hold promise of another nice day. LITTLE MOISTURE--While some folks didn't see any rain as this week began, it was definitely wet in the early hours of Sunday and Monday mornings in West Valley. Luckily it dried up fairly quickly on Sunday and while it was a little breezy, it was fairly decent so a lot of that last minute outside work could still be done. On Monday it was much cooler and cloudier with some rain in the morning, dry most of the day but quite wet by early evening. BEEN NICE--As this work week began, we got a few clouds and sprinkles but it wasn't too bad, as the sun came out and all signs of wetness soon disappeared. However, this Tuesday morning has things much wetter, but I'm sure my plants are loving it, as the ground was hard as a rock and the dirt was nothing but dust, so a little drink is probably a good thing. WARM--This work week is starting out real nice and there seems to be a promise of some nice days ahead. ENOUGH HEAT YET?--When the temperature hit 97 degrees at my house last Saturday, I was saying "enough already!" Whew, it was hot! But thankfully, we had some cool evenings and the house cooled down so sleeping was easy. Here at least, we went from 97 to 61 in just a few hours! CLOUDY--As this work week begins, it's pretty cloudy in the morning, but the cloudiness is not supposed to mean any rain. This past weekend we either had fog or morning clouds, so it was good "working weather" in the early hours and then it was time to enjoy the sunshine when it came out around 11 or so; worked out great, I thought, and the temperatures were pretty toasty by late afternoon. MIXED BAG--It depended on where you were this weekend as to the weather that you had, as some places were sunny, hot and dry and others were cloudy, misty and overcast all day and some had a little of both. HEATING UP--By the time you read this, we are supposed to be experiencing some hot, hot, hot weather and I can hear people complaining already. First it's too wet and cold and then it's too hot, it would have been nice to have a week of dry 75 to 80 degree weather, without going from one extreme to the other. A week ago we were down to 39 degrees one night! COOLER--We've started this work week a bit cooler, as we had some cloud cover and some light sprinkles and more are due I hear, but we sure had a great few days last week and a super weekend as well. That was very welcome after such a soggy spell of weather. I think we've not only dried out a bit but we've gotten our spirits perked up as well, as that ole rain was getting mighty depressing. WHERE IS IT?--As our work week began, so did Summer, but considering it was mostly cloudy and wet, it wasn't the start to Summer that most of us had envisioned. SAW THE SUN--Last Saturday was certainly gorgeous and it got flat hot outside. My skin starting turning dark pink after a short time of being out in my flower beds. By the following morning though, it was so foggy and socked in, the ground was all wet and the trees were dripping, so at first, I thought it was raining. PERFECT--No matter that it was raining last Friday or that it was just an all day soaker on Sunday, what really mattered was that on Saturday, the Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars annual car show and sturgeon derby was basking in sunshine all day long down here in Skamokawa at the fairgrounds and surrounding area! Everyone involved had all been holding their breath all week long, so when I woke up and saw the fog, I knew we'd have sunshine soon to follow, so it worked out perfect! SOGGY--Well, most of this past Memorial weekend was pretty damp I'm afraid. There were a few hours on a couple of days where it was not raining and not too terribly cold, but if you were out camping, you would probably not think this was the most terrific weather for doing so. I know walking around through wet grass or mud puddles is not that much fun, and neither is loading up those wet tents and things when the weekend is over, so hopefully you stayed late enough that you got to dry things out when that sunshine finally showed up about 3 p.m....
WET--It's hard to believe that we're at the end of another month and well into Spring, but we are still experiencing plenty of rain. MIXED BAG--Last weekend was nice and even as the work week begins, the sun is shining after some night time showers. However, it's pretty wet out there this Tuesday morning, and it looks like rain is going to fall most of the week. SPOTTY--Our sunshine has been sort of hit and miss lately, and the days that had been forecast for sunny last week, were pretty spotty. Wound up being more clouds and rain showers than sun I think. Of course, it all depended on where you were, as I heard some folks were able to mow their lawns, while others would have been needing a snorkel to manage that! SAW THE SUN--Between the rain and the wind, we did see some sun last week and as this week began, it was nice all day Sunday. However, with rain coming in for the rest of the week, it looks like the rain coats and boots will be staying by the door. WAS NICE--We had a pretty nice weekend, although there was rain in the middle of the night on Saturday, but that was okay because it was sunny during the daylight hours and that's all that mattered to most of us. THE LION ROARS-- We definitely had Spring and April arrive with a roar; wind, rain and power outages were the norm the last few days. SPRING HAS SPRUNG--Our first day of Spring, March 20, sprang into action with some nice sunshine and temperatures in the high 60s in West Valley, so it was a pretty doggone nice day.
