DECENT BEGINNING--As this week began Sunday was mostly dry after some night rain and then again late at night, so by Monday, the warmer temperatures and sunshine were especially nice. While the wind picked up and the clouds rolled in, it was still dry and yes, still light at 7 p.m. Some showers are supposed to descend upon us between my writing this and you getting it, but then we are supposed to get drier again, with temperatures up near 70. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from March 18-24 are Connie Bassi, Sig Hjaltalin, Sharyl...

GREAT START--As this work week begins, it's absolutely gorgeous after a frozen morning in West Valley. But wait! It was very nice, right up until the wind began to blow and blow hard, and the black clouds rolled in and then it was hailing and snowing and raining and well, it just got nasty! It looks like we could have some cold temperatures and more chances of some freaky weather this week, so I guess winter isn't over just yet. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from March 11-17 are Paul Ehrensberger, Kelly Zink, Larry Bonds, Gretchen M...

  • March has many events scheduled

GORGEOUS--We might be back to some rain now but wasn't last week gorgeous? West Valley saw freezing temps several nights in a row, but those sunny days sure made up for the cold! The only down side to the wonderful weather was my back and knees and everything else, were aching in rebellion against the yard work I was trying to get done! Whew! Always quite a job but I'm glad to get ahead of some of the weeds for a change. I hope you've been able to enjoy some of this sunshine prior to the rains coming back, as it's really a "pick-me-upper."...

NOT TOO BAD--We began this week with mostly sunshine and just a couple sprinkles on Valentine's Day and then on Monday, we had a mostly sunny day after some morning fog, before the clouds came in and got us pretty wet, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. I would say the Valentine/Presidents' weekend was pretty mild compared to other areas. I heard from my brother, Marshall Pedersen, in New Jersey and they have been doing a lot of that "shoveling routine." We better consider ourselves lucky as the East Coast is still getting battered by those...

  • Lots of events on Valentine weekend

NOT TOO BAD--Monday wasn't too bad; some fog in the morning and lots of sunshine, which was nice after several days of partially wet and cold. Looks like the dry streak won't last long as by the time you read this, we'll be ready for more raindrops and maybe even some wind. At least we aren't "shoveling" our weather, as those folks back East got hammered with a couple of feet of snow, so we're looking good. The only down side is that we might be singing the blues when our lack of snow pack brings us a drought this summer. Let's hope that...

STILL WET--While we had some dry days last week, this month began with quite a bit of rain and a pretty nasty Monday. While things are supposed to be a bit drier for the next couple of days, it looks like the rain will be back by the end of the week. While it isn’t really very cold, with temps in the upper 40s and low 50s, the dampness seems to seep into old bones. I can remember snow falling on Valentines Day before, so I guess we should count our blessings that we only seem to have the “wet stuff” falling right now. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celeb...

  • Winds cause power outage in valley

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 21, 2010

WILD WEATHER--We started off this week with quite a storm as the rains came pounding down and hit my front windows in a fury and the winds just roared down the valley and sent the trees in a frenzied dance. While most seemed to have escaped any problems, those of us living in West Valley found ourselves in the dark about midnight Sunday. Our new overhead power lines were no match for a big tree which came across the road, into the lines and through our fence. Ah…such is life in the country. But all was well after about five hours of quiet. W...

  • Valentine's Day on the horizon

WET AGAIN--As I begin this column we are seeing raindrops and winds are headed our way, but hopefully they won’t be too bad. I hope all of you took precautions to batten down the hatches as you never know when one of those watches can turn into a full scale warning and by then, it’s too late! Looks like soggy weather every day this week but one, so keep the hip boots handy. We might need them! With winter just getting started, it’s important to be stocked and ready for any storms that may come our way. We’ve had freezing temperatures and a l...

  • Movie night at Grange hall Saturday

WET AND COLD--Here we are, already a week into the new year. How is it treating you so far? I hope everything is going fine for you but if you’re like me, you’re already wishing for warmer weather as it’s sure been nippy lately. When it wasn’t freezing, it was still wet and windy and the chill just seems to soak into your bones. Brr! Nothing seems to take that away except a nice hot soak in the tub; of course, that’s my old bones talking so many of you aren’t there quite yet. Lucky you! NICE TIME--The New Year came in without any fuss at all...

STILL COLD--As this last week in 2009 begins, I am sitting out here in West Valley with temperatures in the 20s in the early morning hours, so while we enjoyed some clear, blue skies over Christmas, we had to unthaw ourselves first. I was hoping we’d get some of the clear days with no freezing temperatures prior to the sun, but that didn’t happen; it was slick and treacherous out there and our cars were coated with thick, white frost every morning. However, that was better than all that snow we had last year, so while it was not warm by any...

  • Have a safe and happy holiday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 22, 2009

HERE IT IS--Yes indeed, the holiday that I said was months away just recently is already here--it’s Christmas! Wow, did that time just fly by or what? If you’re reading this and you haven’t gotten your shopping done yet, I feel sorry for you. You’d best hop to it or you may only find a bag of coal in your stocking this year! You may be in luck if you’re celebrating late on Christmas Day, so hurry downtown and pick up some of those last minute, yet unique items that you can find around our area, or gift certificates that are sure to please ev...

HOLDING ON--As this work weeks begins, it’s really nasty out there and depending on which weather guy is talking to you, we may be in for some really wild weather. I am writing this early just in case we wind up with no power to type or send things via the computer. The one big storm that is due has yet to arrive. I think we are all hoping it fizzles out and we don’t get the strong winds. We got some fairly strong winds Sunday night, and the coast saw up to 82 mph Monday. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from November 19-25 are Bar...
