NOT TOO BAD--We began this week with mostly sunshine and just a couple sprinkles on Valentine's Day and then on Monday, we had a mostly sunny day after some morning fog, before the clouds came in and got us pretty wet, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. I would say the Valentine/Presidents' weekend was pretty mild compared to other areas. I heard from my brother, Marshall Pedersen, in New Jersey and they have been doing a lot of that "shoveling routine." We better consider ourselves lucky as the East Coast is still getting battered by those...

The architects spent the morning taking measurements and touring the buildings to see their uses and structure. In the afternoon, they met with town council members and around 80 members of the public to discuss ideas and suggestions for use of the town hall, Pioneer Church and adjacent empty lots. "It's exciting to me that we're...
Owners of property in Wahkiakum County didn't receive their "Valentine's Day" mailing from the county treasurer this year. Those mailings, the annual property tax statements, have been delayed as county offices install a new computer program. "Normally, tax statements are in the mail February 15th," Treasurer Paula Holloway said this week. "We are looking to mail statements the week of March 8th. First half taxes are still due April 30th. "If a taxpayer needs to know their taxes due, they can call our office at 795-8005, and we can tell them...

In only his second month on the job, Cathlamet Mayor George Wehrfritz found himself at the center of a storm Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the town council. Citizens and councilors reacted to a letter to the editor of The Eagle published February 4. In it, Wehrfritz responded to a previous letter by Richard Erickson, former executive director of the Lower Columbia Economic Development Council, who in turn had criticized a previous letter writer's opposition to the proposed Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas terminal. Wehrfritz...

To The Eagle: On behalf of all the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District students and staff, I express our appreciation for your support in the Maintenance & Operation Levy. Daily I witness parent and community volunteers come into our schools to work with students one-on-one and in small groups. With this kind of support, it is easy to see why Naselle Sch...
To The Eagle: Last week's Eagle brought to mind an old favorite T-shirt epigram, "I am their leader. Which way did they go?" A front page article has Congressman Baird indicating that federal economic stimulus money helped with jobs when in fact the hemorrhaging never slowed and the fed lied outrageously about it. This is the congressman who voiced some reasonable views on both the Iraq war and health care that were contrary to the party line extant in the Kingdom of Obama, so he has chosen to quit and put in a year of lame duck...
