  • Covered Bridge Dinner Oct. 1

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 15, 2011

Fall is in the air! At least in the early morning hours and in the evening. I guess the few short weeks of summer is all we are going to get. News from Naselle: Sports calendar for the coming week for the Naselle-Grays River Valley District is as follows: Thursday-volleyball at South Bend at 5:45 p.m.; Friday-football at home with Raymond at 7 p.m.; Saturday, there will be a volleyball tournament at North Beach; Monday-middle school volleyball at North Beach at 5:45 p.m.; Tuesday-volleyball in Naselle with Willapa Valley at 5:45 p.m. and...

  • Fund raising efforts for service dog continue

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 8, 2011

I’m not complaining but don’t you find it unusual that it is raining in Yucca Valley, California, and not in Grays River? With all this warm dry weather, we have been able to finally put down our hardwood flooring and are in process of putting the final coats of finish on. What a job, but certainly worth it. News from Naselle: Good job, Comets on last Friday’s football game. Keep up the good work. Sports on the schedule for Naselle include: Thursday-volleyball at home with Ilwaco at 5:45 p.m.; Friday-football at home with Knappa at 7 p.m.;...

  • Johnson Park belongs to all

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 1, 2011

News from Naselle: September already, and school begins again. It seems like summer just started, and now it’s time for new classes, fall sports and cooler weather once again. At least the nice daytime temperatures seem to be hanging around. Today (Thursday) is the first day of school for the 2011/12 class year at the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District, and the sports teams have already had a few weeks of practice. Sports schedules for this week include: Friday, football at home with Ilwaco at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, volleyball at Knappa a...

  • DNR crew's hard work benefits Johnson Park

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 25, 2011

I don’t know about you but the warm rain was quite refreshing at the beginning of this week. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sunshine, but when it gets above 80, it’s too hot. That was one of the many reasons to leave California. The farmers making hay probably didn’t appreciate the rain much as many of them are still trying to get the bales into the barns, and there are still quite a few bales in the fields. It looks like more good weather on the way though, at least through the weekend. News from Naselle: One more week until school begins...

  • Lindgren cabin still looking for volunteers

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 18, 2011

We enjoyed the week visiting with our nephew and niece from California. Didn’t get a whole lot done on the house but the hardwood flooring is just about ready to go down. Who knew that any moisture variance would make it impossible to install until the percentage was right. We didn’t. Hopefully readers will learn something from our experience, regarding hardwood floors in our moist area. When you spend lots of money to purchase the product, you don’t want it to buckle once it’s installed. We are very happy with the end result though, and onl...

  • Lindgren Cabin needs more volunteer hosts

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 11, 2011

News from Naselle: I had a call from Josie Ciambetti with a reminder that the Wahkiakum County Fair will have an extra special concession during this year’s three day run. The Naselle High School Cheerleaders will be cooking and serving two wonderful treats to the fairgoers. You can chow down on tamales and chicken adobo while you are enjoying the fair and at the same time helping the cheerleaders in their fund raising efforts for their cheerleading camp. The Wahkiakum County Fair will be held in Skamokawa on August 18, 19 and 20. One of G...

  • Pig roast time down in Rosburg

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 4, 2011

It looks like summer has actually arrived. Gardens are finally growing, farmers and making hay, and the sun is shining for more than a couple of hours a week. I guess we had better enjoy this break as it may be gone in a week, if Mother Nature stays true to form. Speaking of haying, Darrel Sotka just pulled in with his mower to mow our fields. I hope he doesn’t get lost in the high grass. Don’t forget the summer activities going on at the Timberland Library in Naselle. Summer is the perfect time to catch up on your reading, while sitting in a c...

  • Johnson Park takes on new look

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 21, 2011

First of all, an apology and a correction. In last week's column I wrote about a July 3 barbecue. The barbecue was held at Bobby Olmstead’s home, and was attended by Eddie Wirkkala, his son Warren, his girlfriend and daughter, Ralph Olmstead of Naselle, his friend Susie from Long Beach, Junior Johnson of Vader and Bob and Geri Lee from Grays River. Thank you for the corrections Geri, and my apologies to those I identified incorrectly. I had the pleasure of attending a special meeting with Wahkiakum county commissioners and Chuck Beyer on T...

  • Sheriff's Department has new officer

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 14, 2011

What an absolutely wonderful week we had with our kids, grandkids and dogs last week. They must have brought the sun from California and taken it back with them when they left. At least it’s not cold. For the first time our grandkids didn’t want to go home. They all learned how to drive a stick shift car while they were here, learned how to shoot a .22, how to build a brick fire pit, went swimming in the river, picked salmon berries and they all got along with each other. That was quite an accomplishment in my book of raising kids. News fro...

  • Summer makes spotty appearance

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jun 30, 2011

I guess one day of summer weather every once in a while is all we are going to get from Mother Nature this year. It sure doesn't make it easy to build a house or plant a garden. News from Naselle: School is out for the summer but I would like to commend the high school and middle school students who made the honor roll for the 4th quarter. They are: Seniors--Alex Bighill, Chase Chapman, Cody Cooley and Taylor Wasmundt; Juniors--Robert Eaton, Trevin Leeland*, Lidia Sanchez, Austin Smith, Cramer Smith*, Rachel Underwood, Christopher Walkowiak*,...

Welcome to summer. Today, it actually feels like summer with the sunshine and blue sky. Let’s just hope it continues. News from Naselle: During the last four days of school, the Naselle High School football team held a football camp for elementary students. The youngsters were taught the basic fundamentals and plays by the more experienced team members. This up and coming group will perform during half time at the first home football game. What a wonderful way to build up camaraderie with kids of all ages. Even though school is out for a c...

I understand that several people have been having some issues with their telephones and their service through Wahkiakum West. I also had some problems. When I spoke with Carol Larson at the Wahkiakum West office, she asked that I put the word out for everyone who is having a problem, please document the time, date, phone number of origin and/or destination, your phone number and exactly what was going on, then e-mail it to her at clarson@wahkiakumwest.net. By doing this she can forward the gathered info to the outside carrier and maybe get to...

Well, it looks like we had at least a couple of summer days. It seemed like a perfect day for the Dollars For Scholars Sturgeon Derby and Barbecue, as well as the car show. Once again a huge success. News from Naselle: Naselle-Grays River Valley Class of 2011 will hold their graduation ceremony on June 11 at 4 p.m. in the gymnasium. News from Naselle: Though I wasn’t able to see a “Beauty and the Beast” performance this past week, I have heard nothing but rave revues. Some folks liked it so much that they actually went to see it twice. It’s comments like those that should make this community very proud of our wonderful Barb Swanson and her expertise in putting together these productions every year, while giving our kids the opportunity to gain self confidence and perform in front of appreciative audiences. This community is so fortunate to have good teachers and a wonderfu...

Also a thank you to Prosecuting Attorney Dan Bigelow for putting it all together to be voted on. Another thank you to the folks who have supported passing an ordinance, through their letters and phone calls and for attending meetings with regard to this issue. You all know who you are. • Special Easter service, breakfast this Sunday

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Apr 21, 2011

At least we are seeing some real spring like weather the past few days. The temperatures are still colder than normal, I think. The poor cherry trees and apple trees aren’t sure whether they should start to bloom or not. I guess we just have to chalk it up to “global warming.” News from Naselle Naselle-Grays River Valley School sports calendar for the coming week: Thursday-baseball at Naselle vs. Northwest Christian at 3:30 p.m., track at Wahkiakum at 3:30 p.m.; Friday-JV baseball at Wahkiakum at 3:30 p.m.; Monday-fastpitch and baseball in Nase...

Welcome sunshine! At least intermittently, for the past few days. Looks like more wet stuff on the way, but at least we know there is a sun. I found my first trillium on the hill above the house. Kinda late but beautiful. They always remind me of my mom. Looks like snow and colder weather is on the way. Time to stock up on a few necessary supplies just in case. Remember to check on your animals, make sure their water is thawed and available, and that they have a warm, dry place to bed down. It’s also a good idea to check on your neighbors just in case they need something that you might be able to help them with. We’re all in this weather pattern together, so it can’t do any harm to help each other out. News from Naselle: The first grade class at Naselle School was alive with excitement that...
