Flooded in again! It wasn’t too bad until Sunday and we couldn’t get any of the vehicles out. The ducks are in heaven though. Our dogs have discovered that if they wade into the water under the trees, they can pick the mice out of the lower branches and have a snack. Another weird week of weather. It looks like all the gloom and doom forecasts have just about missed us so far. It makes me wonder how much these folks get paid, with all the high tech equipment, and still can’t get it even close to right. Maybe they should have a window put in their offices, and look outside before they give a forecast. Be advised, though, the bad weather warnings need to be heeded, just in case. Here we are, the final countdown to the end of 2010, and a new year dawning with hope for good health and good fortune coming with it. It has been an eventful year for many of us, but we have all made it through. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and that it was full of family, friends, good food and lots of fun. Sunday certainly brought an interesting storm to our area. The Grays River was over its banks and in the fields within a few minutes that afternoon. We drove to Rosburg at about 3 p.m. and in the time it took us to get back home the water was about four inches deep over our driveway coming in. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It was wonderful to get away for a few days, see family, eat too much and get some wonderful news as well. We kind of slip-slided our way to Redmond, Ore. for the holiday as the roads were pretty icy, but made it all in one piece. My goodness, it’s nearly December, and another year almost gone. Christmas is almost here. This was an unusual beginning for our week. Snow, snow and even a little more snow. An early deadline for the week also throws off the norm. It is really an interesting camp out trying to keep the water pipes from freezing in our motor home. Several local veterans were in attendance and were given special recognition. It was a wonderful experience for the students, the community and the honored veterans. We woke up this morning to four gunshots, not a real surprise as we had hunters on the property. It turned out to be a really successful hunt for Alan Gregory and Mark Zimmerman. My heart goes out to Lois Nelson and the loss she has endured due to her home fire. Fire is devastating not only to property but emotionally as well. I hope she was able to save some of her most personal items, as that seems to be what we miss most, in this type of a loss. Brr! Still strange weather for summer. One day you think summer missed us altogether and the next day or two it is definitely here. I am pleased to be able to let all the readers know that the Rosburg Store will reopen with new owners, though the date is yet to be determined. Norm and Joyce Bolton have purchased the property and will run it as a family business, with their daughter, Leslie and granddaughter, Cassie working in the store. I met with Norm and Joyce on Monday, and they told me that they will run the store much the same as it always has...
Two weeks already, since our home burned. We are settling in to our motorhome, making minor repairs, since it hasn’t been used in 10 years, and looking forward. Better than looking back I’d say. In my stupor last week, I neglected to thank some very important people, our volunteer fire departments. Thank you so much for all your efforts in trying to put out the fire and save our home.
