    It’s been a cold and wet week but that hasn’t stopped us pushing forward with the fair clean up. This week we saw some dramatic changes as the remains of the Commercial Building and Horse Arena were cleared away. Not only has the Horse Barn roof been replaced but also the guttering on the T Building and 4-H Barn. The clean up crew has been working hard, cleaning, painting and organizing the fairgrounds from top to bottom. The Wahkiakum Mule wrestling team placed third in the District 4 2B/1B Tournament this past weekend at Ocosta high school and came home with three individual championships. The Mules finished third out of 10 teams, two points behind second place North Beach, and 18 points behind district champion Ocosta.     Emergency permits from state and federal agencies didn't come too soon for Pat and Bob Ohrberg. The Ohrbergs and their neighbors have been watching the Columbia River erode the shoreline in front of their property for years, and this winter's storms and high water have cut the bank to close proximity of houses and outbuildings.     A brainstorming event that included area landowners, Conservation District supervisors and concerned citizens was held February 2 at Skamokawa Methodist Church. The concern of serious area flooding was the consensus of problems facing Wahkiakum County. Darin Houpt, Wahkiakum Conservation District manager, said the main reason to bring the group together was to find long range planning for relief to area residents.     Wahkiakum County discussed activities and acted on travel requests in a light meeting Tuesday. After meeting with department heads in the afternoon to discuss vouchers, travel requests, courthouse hours and postal boxes, the board agreed to end a policy adopted last year to require commission approval of all travel outside the county. The measure was part of spending controls the board adopted to address a revenue shortfall.
