With great imagination and welding talent, he takes recycled items and creates very interesting lamps, tables and art objects. He says part of the fun of doing his art is finding the pieces at swap meets, garage and estate sales and the internet. He likes to salvage items from going to the scrap yard. The reward is the comments he receives from the people who appreciate his work. Steam punk is...

PRETTY DAMP--After a gorgeous day last Friday, which saw temperatures climb clear up to 70 degrees, the weekend was nothing at all like that! We were back to the rain and the gloom and the doom and some windy moments as well! The only thing I can say about it is that it certainly saved me from feeling guilty about not doing any yardwork, as it was definitely more of a book reading, movie watching, inside kind of day! I hear that we might wind up with a bit of decent weather this weekend, but when they say "three days" of sun, or partial sun,...

The Cathlamet town council dealt with a construction setback dilemma when it met Monday. Linda Barth asked the council to change an ordinance setting for parameters for rebuilding when a building is partially destroyed. She explained that her family is trying to sell a small house sitting on a small lot on Maple Street. Years ago, a neighbor constructed a garage and put the back wall three feet from their building, which is closer than the town's building ordinance allows. A sale is pending but being held up when the lending bank learned that...
To The Eagle: In the ongoing discussion about financial support being given to the Community Center in Cathlamet, there is one point that I want to be sure we consider. It has to do with the property taxes that we pay to Wahkiakum County and to the Town of Cathlamet. A number of people have made a point of comparing the public support given to Johnson Park (in Rosburg) and to the Community Center (in Cathlamet). But, if we’re going to compare the county’s support of Johnson Park with the town’s support of the Community Center, we need to inclu...
To The Eagle: Earth Day 2017 is Saturday, April 22 and friends of the Pioneer Community Association and Cathlamet Community Center are planning on doing some much needed Spring Cleaning around town. We invite you to join us as we polish up our curb appeal and make our little town shine after a long, wet winter. Last October 22, more than 50 volunteers turned out on National Make a Difference Day for the first Tidy Up the Town event. Much was accomplished and we are excited about what we can achieve with even more people. We will meet at 9:00...

GREAT WEEKEND--I wish the sun and dryness would have lasted a little longer, but if it were to show up, then we're sure glad it chose Easter weekend to be here, as boy, it's been awhile since we had two dry days together on a holiday! It didn't hurt that there were a lot of events going on this weekend as well, and nothing brings out a crowd like the big yellow globe in the sky; it was great! However, Monday arrived with more dreariness and rain. These April showers are not letting up, so it's still time for umbrellas and boots it seems. As lon...
