The Cathlamet town council dealt with a construction setback dilemma when it met Monday. Linda Barth asked the council to change an ordinance setting for parameters for rebuilding when a building is partially destroyed. She explained that her family is trying to sell a small house sitting on a small lot on Maple Street. Years ago, a neighbor constructed a garage and put the back wall three feet from their building, which is closer than the town's building ordinance allows. A sale is pending but being held up when the lending bank learned that...
To The Eagle: In the ongoing discussion about financial support being given to the Community Center in Cathlamet, there is one point that I want to be sure we consider. It has to do with the property taxes that we pay to Wahkiakum County and to the Town of Cathlamet. A number of people have made a point of comparing the public support given to Johnson Park (in Rosburg) and to the Community Center (in Cathlamet). But, if we’re going to compare the county’s support of Johnson Park with the town’s support of the Community Center, we need to inclu...

Last October 22, more than 50 volunteers turned out on National Make a Difference Day for the first Tidy Up the Town event. Much was accomplished and we are excited about what we can achieve with even more people. We will meet at 9:00...

GREAT WEEKEND--I wish the sun and dryness would have lasted a little longer, but if it were to show up, then we're sure glad it chose Easter weekend to be here, as boy, it's been awhile since we had two dry days together on a holiday! It didn't hurt that there were a lot of events going on this weekend as well, and nothing brings out a crowd like the big yellow globe in the sky; it was great! However, Monday arrived with more dreariness and rain. These April showers are not letting up, so it's still time for umbrellas and boots it seems. As lon...

WILD ONE--Depending on where you were this past week, you may have had some really crazy weather, which included lots of wind, rain, hail or if you were headed over an area of higher elevation, even some snow! While we had a slight blip in our power and several bumps, we didn't have a major outage here, but I know lots of other areas certainly did. While we got a break on Sunday for awhile, Monday was blustery and rain and hail were back in our area off and on. Here's hoping for some drier stretches of weather soon! NOT READY?!--Once again,...
