Joyce R. Cothren, 82, of Cathlamet, died on January 29 at home. She was born to Frank and Roberta (Jones) Lilly in Newport, Washington on December 13, 1934. She graduated from Winlock High School in 1953 and married GL Cothren on June 12 the same year. Joyce loved reading, camping, clam digging, playing cards and sending cards to everyone for birthdays, anniversaries and sympathy. She was a caring, loving person. The Wahkiakum 4-H Robotics Club had a neat opportunity to visit Nichols Brother's Boat Builders on January 20. Our county commissioner, Mike Backman, set up the tour. Each of the kids were welcomed into the office of Matt Nichols (the executive vice president) with a hand shake and introduction. Matt is a 3rd generation boat builder. DAMP--This past weekend was a bit damp off and on and a little blustery too, but considering some areas were still dealing with snow and ice, and other parts of our nation suffered through a multitude of tornadoes and flooding, I'd say we fared pretty well. Two representatives from the National Park Service met with several community members last Friday to present some park design drawings that were created after the all day planning workshop in November and to listen to feedback. The park is planned for the three acres along the waterfront which once held the sewer lagoons. Among many items of business, the council approved agreements with the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce, Wahkiakum County and Port District 1, and they presented a schedule for a consultant's analysis of sewer system finances.
