  • Wahkiakum County has become couple's home

    Deb Howie|Sep 4, 2013

To The Eagle: Some people call us outsiders. Mark and I came to Wahkiakum eight years ago when we bought a small cottage. My mother in law lives here and we made this our second home. Whenever we drove into Cathlamet, I knew we would live the rest of our days here. We came from a city with high crime, gangs, drugs, and prostitution. After a weekend ended, and we had to go back to Seatac, we hated leaving. The only thing calling us back was Mark's job and family--our two daughters, grandsons, my mom, dad, and aunt. When Jon Dearmore called Mark...

  • Last days of fiber arts display

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 28, 2013

GRAY--We began this week with a little grayer weather and a couple of light sprinkles. However, by the time the work week began, we may have started dry and sunny but my mid-afternoon, it got pretty doggone wet out here in West Valley. Good for the plants and the fire danger, but not so great for those outdoor chores, like putting on a new roof or tending to ones' garden. It sounds like we've got a mixed bag of weather coming this week, with some sun, some clouds and some showers, so if you've got some dry time, you'd best be taking advantage...

  • Many visitors enjoyed the county fair

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 21, 2013

GOOD AND BAD--There is an old saying around here, that if you want to plan something outdoors, don't do it at fair time, as the odds are, it will rain! Sure enough, after about a month of dry weather, it rained pretty good last Thursday on the opening day of the fair, which was really too bad. While we needed the rain, the timing couldn't have been worse, but thankfully, the hearty still came to check out the fair and we certainly thank all those who did. As this week begins, we are sunny but extemely muggy. I'm sure those camping or traveling...

The formal opening ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. by the flag pole. You may notice that the flag is now in a different place. Where it was before was right in the way of getting things in and out of the arena stands area, so it was moved earlier this year. My family is proud to announce that the new flag...

  • It's reunion season in Skamokawa

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 8, 2013

BIT OF A CHANGE-- We started this month on a bit cooler note and even had some sprinkles a couple of mornings, so if you were one of those people who still had hay down, I'm sure you were not happy to wake up to a couple of wet mornings. My lawn liked it, though. Last weekend saw the sun come back and it got downright warm, which made for a good time for all the events going on in our area. They included Skamokawa Fair Princess Aaliyah Montgomery's all-day fundraiser at the fairgrounds, along with the 4-H horse camp that was going on there...
