The Cathlamet Town Council on Monday agreed to start in motion the process to stop providing water for Wahkiakum PUD's Puget Island Water System. The water contract for two entities doesn't expire until 2037, but council members agreed with Mayor George Wehrfritz that it might be prudent for the agencies to separate. Adeline B. Peterson Durrah, 86, of Cathlamet died July 25, 2013, under hospice care at her granddaughter's home in Kelso. She was born October 15, 1926, in Hettinger County, N.D., to Raphael and Kathryn (Decker) Brinster. Adeline moved to Kelso from North Dakota in 1948. She married Clarence Peterson Jan. 1, 1949, in Kelso. He preceded her in death in 1994. On Sept. 27, 1996, she married James "Jimmy" Durrah. He passed away in 2012. JA Wendt Elementary School Playground Clean-up Project This Saturday, August 3 from 9 a.m. to lunchtime, the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has organized a volunteer clean-up project for the JA Wendt Elementary School Playground. Activities include re-painting all hopscotch, 4-square and basketball court lines as well as some areas on the large playground structure. To The Eagle: Just getting back from the recycling bins by the high school with feelings of sadness and disgust. Because of all the garbage in the plastics bins, I will take my two bags to Longview and put only the plastics in the bins, saving the bags for later use or put them in my garbage at home. There was garbage outside the bins and the smell of garbage from the bins. In Longview there are signs that people misusing the recycling area could be fined. Is that true here? If not, it should be.
