  • What's happening at the Fair?

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Nov 29, 2012

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner! I was very thankful that the high tides, big gusts of wind and inches of rain predicted did not cause severe flooding at the Fairgrounds. Earlier in the week I had asked some local volunteers, Bill Chamberlain, Ed Stevens and Jerry Ledtke, to help me watch for any approaching flood water problems as this storm moved through our County. By Monday afternoon the winds were increasing and the rain was pouring down and blowing sideways because of the high winds. We decided it was time to move...

Fifty-five percent of the students in the elementary school district qualify for assistance in the breakfast and lunch program. Ridout witnessed children of all ages showing up on Monday morning, hungrier than any other day of the school week. Motivated by compassion and her studies in poverty at Portland State University, she started a n...

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 22, 2012

Members of the Helping Hand Food Bank have asked the Town of Cathlamet to consider leasing a parcel of land to become the site of a new food bank. Helping Hand representatives discussed the matter with members of the Cathlamet town council at the council's monthly meeting Tuesday. Craig Brown, architectural advisor for the group, said the site offers numerous advantages over the food bank's present site at the foot of Broadway Street. Among the advantages, he said, the new site would offer better access for the public and for deliveries of food...

  • What's Happening at the Fair?

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Nov 22, 2012

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to say thank you to the many bingo players who attended Turkey Bingo last Friday night. The winning card holders received a big turkey or a ham for their bingo. During one game, there were four bingos at the same time and Mike Backman, our number caller, had to call a bingo run-off to determine the winner. Now that’s intense bingo! We also had two games of black-out bingo; the winners were Samantha Wright and Kim Hedges. They both received a complete dinner plus a turkey. I suspect there will be some d...

  • Bazaars, home tours on holiday schedule

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 22, 2012

Well, folks, we are now sitting on waterfront property once again. We could conceivably row straight across the field to the Covered Bridge but the current is such that it probably wouldn’t be such a good idea. Water is over the driveway to the tune of probably six feet and will go higher with the continuing rain, so we are in for a few days. The dogs love to go for walks in this weather as they pick the small critters out of the low branches of the trees, just like candy. The wind is especially unnerving today, and likely there will be some p...
