The timber trust revenue is an important part of the revenue for the county's Current Expense Fund, which finances most county offices. St. Helens District...
To The Eagle: The town of Cathlamet and its library committee have concluded that a good temporary location for the library during town hall remodeling would be up in the Shell station plaza on SR4. A couple of weeks ago, the mayor presented the county commissioners an elegant idea: if the county would be willing to waive its hookup fees to the legendary "Sewer to Nowhere" that lies a-molderin' in the ground by Boege Road, then the mall would be able to hook up to it, preempting any potential sewer problems caused by the library's tenancy. But...

We sang songs. We went really fast too!” McKenzie Miller and her colleagues with the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership (LCREP) hosted the kids as an extension of a classroom program on local watersheds. LCREP is one of 28 programs in the National Estuary Program that works to protect and restore the nationa...
Officials from the Town of Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County agreed Tuesday to continue discussions of the town's request for support of a temporary relocation of the Bradley Library to the Cathlamet Food Mart Building in Rosedale. Commissioners Dan Cothren and Lisa Marsyla indicated they would consider contributing to rent payments, but they showed little support for the town's request to waive sewer connection fees for the mini-mall. "Those are two separate issues," Cothren commented. The town is looking for temporary quarters for the library,...
Reports about a water leak, a planned power outage, and a construction project occupied Wahkiakum PUD commissioners at their April 18 meeting. Manager Dave Tramblie reported that a leak in the Western Wahkiakum Water System had been repaired last week. One of the water crew employees noticed water was coming out of a concrete underground storage vault, said Tramblie, and opened the vault to find the plumbing for a valve had failed. Tramblie displayed the tiny part, which was about an inch long. “We don’t know for sure how much water we los...
Port District 1 commissioners were all ears Thursday as Jim Wilson from Wahkiakum Fire District #4 discussed policies for emergency response at the Marina. “We currently don’t have any guidelines for emergency response here. We want to know what resources you have and what you would like for us to do,” Wilson told commissioners. “We hope to have a written plan reviewing response guidelines. We’ll work on something for a unified command. I would like a port official to be present and to be a co-commander in case something was to happen he...

In other business at Monday's council meeting, the council approved contracts for repaving 3rd Street and for an architect to develop plans for remodeling Town Hall. NICE WEEKEND--Easter weekend was certainly a nice one for all those traveling or enjoying the Easter egg hunts, although we did start Saturday morning in West Valley with a layer of thick, white frost and temps in the upper 20s. Thankfully, the sun was shining and it was soon much warmer and I think everyone's spirits perked right up as the day went along. I know the lawn mowers were kept busy. As this work week began, it was still warm, albeit cloudy, but while it was dry, we were scurrying around trying to get as much done outside as...
