Wahkiakum County general election results remained unchanged after election workers counted another batch of votes Monday. In voting for a seat on the board of commissioners for Port District No. 2, Lori Scott maintained her lead over Carlton Appelo. Scott led 322-268 in the initial tally November 8 and still led 390-340 after votes were counted Monday. In a special meeting Monday, the Cathlamet Town Council accepted a bid to perform maintenance work at the Julia Butler Hansen Municipal Swimming Pool. Cathlamet's Main Street merchants this week began a holiday season food collection drive to benefit the county's food banks. The first collection will end November 19, with all donations going to the Wahkiakum Lions Club, which will conduct its annual Walk and Knock Food Drive. So far we have just received standard responses to our letters involving our Skamokawa Post Office and whether or not we are going to be able to keep it here, where it's been since 1873! Cathlamet resident, Helen Patricia Bigler, “Patty”, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 31, 2011. Patty was born May 8, 1932 to Leonard J. Ferguson and Laura M. Tennis in Eugene, Ore. She graduated from Eugene High School in 1950 and her first job was with the local phone company. She married the love of her life, David L. Bigler on August 4, 1962. They eventually made their home in Cathlamet where Patty retired from the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s Department as a civil deputy in 1995. Patty was preceded in death by her beloved husba...
Allan D. "Bud" Hodge, 87, of Cathlamet died October 13, 2011. He was born January 17, 1924 in Ridgefield to David and Cleda (Pope) Hodge. He attended Benson Polytech in Portland and married his first wife Norma Reese in 1945 in Vancouver. He married his second wife Jean Hammon in Cathlamet in 2005. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union #701 for 67 years and worked on the construction of dams in the local area. The Wahkiakum Public Utility District commissioners increased rates for its water and electricity customers at its regular meeting Tuesday. The board also agreed to travel to the west side of the county for the second meeting of the second month of each quarter, beginning February 21, 2012.
