To The Eagle: It is with a sad and heavy heart that I write this letter. My husband came home with the news today that the "guardian of the mountain" had passed recently. I'm sure most other drivers were at least aware of him because of his sheer size and beauty! I know that we, for one, noticed him and looked for him anytime we headed over KM Mountain. He would lay there in the yard, sometimes closer towards the road where the ground sloped up, so as to have a resting place for his massive head, all the while lazily watching traffic go by. We...

It’s also a good idea to check on your neighbors just in case they need something that you might be able to help them with. We’re all in this weather pattern together, so it can’t do any harm to help each other out. News from Naselle: The first grade class at Naselle School was alive with excitement that...

An ad hoc committee formed by Cathlamet Mayor George Wehrfritz to survey attitudes about and possibilities for business in Cathlamet reported its results last week. Committee chair John Dees led a dozen persons through a presentation of survey results and comments from respondents. Wehrfritz said he formed the committee to see what goods and services people in Wahkiakum County might use. Main Street's empty store fronts give the impression of a town in decline and that negatively affects existing or future businesses. "This gives us a baseline,...
The foreclosures that hit the county’s real estate market in 2009 continue to depress the local housing market, and local realtors fear more are on the way. The sales of foreclosed properties, from banks to individuals climbed proportionately, from two in 2008, seven in 2009 and 21 in 2010. WILD ONE--Last Saturday was a wild one fr awhile, as the wind came up and was just wreaking havoc in several places. Some cars in the Costco parking lot were not overly impressed with the windy weather when a culvert from a neighboring construction site took flight and landed on their vehicles. Wow, that would have ruined your day wouldn't it? Around our neck of the woods, we just had a lot of limbs scattering the roadways and some patio furniture had to be rescued by some East Valley residents, but I hadn't heard of anything real bad. On Monda...
