The second Silver Buckle Series Open Game Show was a well attended event last Saturday at the fairgrounds. There were 24 horses and riders that participated in the timed events. A 12-person jury on July 22 found a Cathlamet man guilty of eluding a police officer but not guilty of assaulting another man with a knife. Cody Ronald James Farnsworth was charged last December with assault in the first degree and attempting to elude a police officer. Officers and witnesses at the trial said Farnsworth and the victim, Jerome Palmer, were friends and had been drinking with other friends at the Duck Inn in Skamokawa on December 18. On August 27, 28 and 29, Cathlamet and Puget Island will host the Second Annual Cathlamet Downhill Corral, a series of internationally sanctioned longboard races. The event kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. with dual races: A slide competition will begin on Main and Broadway streets and a tight slalom race that will start at Broadway and River streets. Fire departments from Cathlamet to Naselle were called to fight a three alarm fire on South Satterlund Road around noon last Thursday in Grays River. They were called to the home of Trudy and Delvin Fredrickson. Michael Douglas Brennan, 63, of Cathlamet died July 24 at home. He was born July 19, 1947, in Huntington Park, Calif. to Katie and Joseph J. Brennan. He graduated from Bell Gardens High School and served in the Air Force from 1966-1970. On September 6, 1969 he married Gerry Gessner. She survives him at home after 40 years of marriage. He and Gerry moved to Cathlamet in 1973 where he worked at Durrah and Martin logging company. He worked for the Wahkiakum County PUD for 30 years, and retired in August of 2008.
