Most stores have programs where you can purchase and donate items for kids who can’t afford to buy their own supplies. A great way to give, and help out kids. Westend news: More great veggies, fruits and bak...

The Mules will play the second game of a double header on September 1. The Napavine Tigers will take on the Liberty Lancers at 10 a.m., and the Mules will face the Colfax Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Both games will...

In the race for US Congress, District 3, incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler did well in Wahkiakum County, tallying 730 votes. Her nearest challenger is Democrat Carolyn Long with 431 votes. Others seeking the position wer...

I’m not sure how everyone else is dealing with all the heat and dry weather for the past few weeks, but I’m ready for rain, lots of rain. My well is about dry and it’s quite nerve wracking. I don’t even dare to mow, as I am afraid hitting a rock will spark the dry grass and cause a huge fire. Be safe everyone. News from Naselle: FinnFest 2018 is now a part of history and what a great event for all to enjoy. With the food, flowers, music, dancing, all the displays and lectures, how could anyone find anything to criticize? It was amazing...
PERFECT--The weather for Bald Eagle Day just couldn't have been more perfect. As this week begins, we've got some heat arriving but at least Sunday morning began with some heavy, moist cloud cover to help dampen things a bit before it got sunny and warm. With a dry, very hot week ahead, here's to keeping hydrated and limiting our time in the sun so nobody is having to be carted away due to heat stroke. BURN BAN--Don't forget, our county is now under a burn ban, which actually started July 15, so nobody should be lighting any fires anywhere, for...

With all the dry weather I hope everyone is taking extra care with possible fires. It can be something as innocent as a cigarette butt, a piece of glass in dry tinder or a spark from a brush hog hitting a rock. Be safe out there, and be extra careful. Our animals need extra looking after in these hot days as well, so just a reminder, leave lots of fresh water for them and give them shelter out of the heat. News from Naselle: The Finnish-American Folk Festival is again being held in Naselle on July 27, 28 and 29. Bring the whole family and...
