Virginia Wendelin, 93, a lifelong Grays River resident, died October 11, 2017 in Longview. She was born April 17, 1924 in Astoria, Ore., to John and Helen (Cook) King and grew up on a farm in Grays River. Virginia graduated from Naselle High School in 1942. In the mid 1940s Virginia married Ernest Wendelin and together they farmed in Grays River. For several years she was also the Post Master in Grays River. The 10th Annual Covered Bridge Dinner was just as phenomenal as I remembered it. I had not attended for the last five years due to caring for my husband. The cooks, the music, the setup crews, the donors of the auction items, our illustrious auctioneer, Sheriff Howie, the bidders and the diners and especially the reason we were all there--our kids in 4-H and their programs, everything was perfect. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association last week included Naselle Comette Holly Disch in its Athlete of the Week awards for Week 4 (September 17-September 23).
