Born April 15, 1917, in Astoria, Oregon, Ernest grew up in the Pacific Northwest, settling in western Wahkiakum County just in time to graduate from Naselle-Grays River Valley High School, class of 1935. Previous schools included Mount Baker High in Deming, Washington, and Clatskanie High School.     8th Annual Dollars for Scholars Rods & Reels Car Show This weekend marks the 8th year of the Rods & Reels Car show held at the fairgrounds in Skamokawa. Each year hundreds of unique vehicles attend to celebrate cars and enjoy some good old fashioned BBQ.     Appelo Archives Center has published a new book about the history of Frankfort, a lower Columbia ghost town. The new publication on Frankfort's history is a revised and edited edition of Carlton Appelo's previous work from 1976 issued in the Wahkiakum West Telephone Company's phone book. That phone book is now solely owned by private collectors. Appelo's work is Part I of the new book.     Local high school track and field athletes fared well at the district championships last Thursday at Raymond and advanced to the state meet this Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University, Cheney.     The Finnish movie for May at the Appelo Archives Center, Tommy and the Wildcat (Poika ja Ilves), will be shown on May 25th at 11 a.m. The AAC is located at 1056 SR 4, two miles east of Naselle schools. Directed by Raimo O. Niemi, the film was completed in 1998. It is about a 12 year old boy who moves to a small village in Lapland which was where his mother was raised.
