  • Big weekend here in Skamokawa

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 31, 2012

SO-SO--The big Memorial weekend has come to an end and while it wasn't a total bust for weather, it could have been better. While some were enjoying sunshine on Saturday, most of us here in Skamokawa were stuck in sea fog and windy conditions, which meant it was a bit nippy, especially for those on the beach. On Sunday things were a little warmer but still mostly cloudy, while Monday morning saw us with wet roads at first, but then it dried out enough to mow the lawn. Last week we had an unusual day with quite a bit of thunder, and it really...

  • School district meeting proves informative

    May 31, 2012

To The Eagle: Tuesday evening, May 8, I attended a very informative meeting regarding the proposed replacement Bond Levy for the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District. This meeting was for a community conversation with BLRB Architects. The most disappointing thing about the meeting was there were only six community people in attendance. The rest were teachers, administrators, board members and representatives from the architect firm. There will be another meeting June 5 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. I urge everyone to attend. The...

  • School gets ready for graduation

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 30, 2012

Is anyone else being swarmed with hummingbirds? I have never seen so many at the same time. My feeders have to be refilled daily and sometimes there are two birds eating at the same time on each of the little flowers for a total of six birds on each feeder. They are amazing little creatures. My cats are just about crazy looking at them through the window, especially when a bird will hover on the other side of the glass where the cat’s staring. News from Naselle: Less than two weeks left in the 2012 school year, with several important events com...

  • List of popular names has changes

    Melissa Linquist, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 24, 2012

Every parent knows that choosing a baby name can be a daunting and difficult task. Couples peruse the internet and baby name books; they take suggestions from family and friends and create lists which they systematically eliminate names from until only one remains. “Picking out a name is very difficult" says Casey Barber Johnson of Naselle. Johnson anticipates the birth of her fourth son very soon. "As we are thinking of names we play rhyming games to see what words rhyme (therefore how he could get made fun of). We also are trying to pick a s...

  • Great White Tail Run on Saturday

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 17, 2012

GORGEOUS--I hope all of you have been slathering on the sunscreen as we've really had a wonderful stretch of sunshine lately! Having this dry, warm weather means we often stay in the sun a little too long, so whether you are working or playing in it, I hope you're keeping safe, and taking precautions for yourself and children. Hats, umbrellas, sun screen and shade are great ways to ward off the bad part while still enjoying the wonderful sunshine and soaking up some great Vitamin D. As we all know, this wonderful weather can't last forever,...

  • Weekend packed full with events

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 10, 2012

GORGEOUS--Well, as this week began, there was nothing but blue sky all day long with perfect temperatures for working in the yard or just sitting outside and taking it all in. So nice! Of course, if you happened to have been downwind from any big trees, you would have had the unfortunate timing of a pollen bath, as it was coming off the trees in virtual waves. Sort of neat to witness, but if you're allergy prone, it was time to run and hide in the house! Did you see the "super moon" Saturday night? I only saw it briefly as it slipped between a...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|May 3, 2012

SO-SO--Last weekend promised to bring some sunshine to our area but after a brief amount on Saturday morning, the clouds took over and it was rather gloomy all day. However, it was dry, so that was something. Sunday saw some brief sun breaks but by nightfall and Monday morning, it was nothing but rain, so if things clear up by the end of the week, I'm sure everyone will be happy.
