Donations to Johnson Park will help venues

Here we are, the final countdown to the end of 2010, and a new year dawning with hope for good health and good fortune coming with it. It has been an eventful year for many of us, but we have all made it through.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and that it was full of family, friends, good food and lots of fun. We headed south to Stockton, Calif. and apparently got the blame for bringing more rain to them. We had a wonderful time, spent lots of time with grandkids, kids and even some friends. The grandchildren made ornaments for next year’s Christmas tree, replaced some of my old pictures, and one of the granddaughters really made this Grammie happy by asking for help in learning how to sew. Family is what life is all about!

We also came home to a short visit with youngest son Carl and also with Eli Williams and Evan Hendrickson. I miss not seeing some of the kids that used to be around all the time.

Other news from the Westend:

Johnson Park venues have been the recipients of some very generous donations this past month and the board would like to thank the donors. The kitchen fund received $150 from the Grays River Grange and the Grays River Valley Library received $3000 to purchase books or library related equipment, from Wahkiakum County. Thank you for all the support. It is certainly appreciated.

I am open to suggestions on titles for new books to purchase, also periodicals, movies and audio books. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have some ideas.

The Community Computer Center will be closed today (Thursday), partly due to the holiday week and partly due to the fact that both Judy Durrah and Norm Bolton are both a little under the weather. Hope you both feel better soon.

One of our Grays River neighbors, Julie Hoak has been under the weather, so I wanted to let her know we are thinking about her and hoping she will be home soon. She and her husband, Andy live on Loop Road in the house that Raymond and Caroline Badger used to own. They have done an amazing transformation to the cute little cottage, by raising it up higher and putting a beautiful deck on it. What a great job you have done.

Senior lunches are served three days a week at the Rosburg Hall. Tuesday and Thursday lunches are sponsored by CAP and Pat Potter and her crew put out a great meal on Wednesdays. Check them out, for a wonderful meal and great company.

Birthdays being celebrated this coming week are Stacy Lane, Richie Bennett, Nathan Reitz, Dolores Nelson, Cheryl Caetano, Marcie Dunham, Leonard Vaughn, Dorothy Johnson, Heather Leonard, Alan Wirkkala, Keith Wirkkala, James Ray Smith, Lawrence Busse, Laura Ann Leaf, Logan Sandell, Tracy Shirek, Will Wuorinen, Marshall Wirkkala, Eric Peterson, Signa Kilponen and Michelle Condon. Happy Birthday everyone!

Happy Anniversary to Richard and Gwen Angstrom as you celebrate your special day.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Enjoy a safe celebration. Welcome 2011, it’s bound to be better than 2010!
