Cathlamet Councilmember Danielle Erickson has resigned effective July 29. She and her husband are moving to Oklahoma City to take new jobs. The council received Erickson's resignation last week and accepted it at their meeting on Monday. Her husband, Ryan, will be employed in the city planning department, and she has found a teaching job. She has been a teacher in the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District. The 27th Annual Bald Eagle Festival kicks off tomorrow with activities to last all weekend. The first annual chalk art contest will take place on Broadway Street by Wright Pro Hardware from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The cost is free for participants and the chalk will be provided. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) recently leased a new boat launch site on Deep River in Wahkiakum County to serve anglers fishing for sturgeon, salmon and other species in the Columbia River estuary. For a change, commercial and recreational salmon fishermen found cause to agree at a town hall meeting in Cathlamet May 7.
