The Wahkiakum Mules picked up a Central League/River Divison win with a 42-6 win over the host Toutle Lake Ducks last Friday. The Mules had no trouble with the Duck defense; they rushed for 310 yards and gained another 138 in the air as quarterback Lucas Brown completed eight of 11 passes. Last Thursday, eighth grader Kaiden Ray took first place in the 1.5 mile JW Black Lake XC race for junior high boys. He was one of 18 runners from three schools and he clocked in at 10:45 for the winning time. Last week Wahkiakum runners participated at a Central 2B league meet hosted by Toledo at Lewis and Clark State Park. John C. Thomas Warrior and eighth grader Kaiden Ray took 13th place out of 28 runners from five schools in a 2,500 meter race. He finished with a time of 13:08. The community is invited to come out and show some support for our local Wahkiakum Youth Football team at their only home game this Saturday, September 29 at 12:30 p.m. The Mini-Mules will play on the high school field against a Rainier, Ore., Youth Football team. Even with 31 players on the squad as of Monday, this year's team is a mixture of youth and experience. "We have 31 kids turning out of which 10 are upperclassmen," Mule Coach Erick Hansen said Monday. "Of those, eight are football players (two are foreign exchange students).
