  • Research shows impacts of melting glacial watersheds

    Columbia Basin Bulletin|Aug 30, 2018

New research shows how accelerated melting of glaciers in the Cascade Mountain Range could dwindle late summer stream flows in decades to come, taking previous work on glacial melt to a new level. A peer-reviewed study is slated for publication in Water Resources Research, a journal of the American Geophysical Union, outlining a complex model for six drainages in the Cascades that are all fed by glaciers in varying degrees. They opened their doors to all, and a few Wahkiakum County residents found their way there. The Portland group, which celebrates Irish culture, was in town to do a little camping at Vista Park. • Still time to donate school supplies

    Kay Chamberlain|Aug 23, 2018

SMOKY START--As this week began, it was a pretty smoky Sunday morning, and forecasters say that we'll have more of that until mid-week. When it's smoky, it's a good idea to limit our time outside and if we have to be out there, then buy a really good mask that can filter out the fine particles that can cause lung damage. I guess we can all hope and pray that these wild fires come to an end soon so we can all breathe a little easier and our brave, over-worked fire crews can catch a break as well. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from...

    Kay Chamberlain|Aug 16, 2018

MOISTURE--When I went to bed last Friday night, it was lightly misting out here in West Valley. When I woke up, it was good and wet outside, and then the skies really opened up and we got some real rain! I was thrilled to see it as we surely needed a good drenching to help bring our fire danger down a little and help those creeks and streams a bit. THIS IS IT: FAIR TIME--I hope the raindrops stay away for the last three days of this coming week, as it's time for the 110th Annual Wahkiakum County...
