MOISTURE--When I went to bed last Friday night, it was lightly misting out here in West Valley. When I woke up, it was good and wet outside, and then the skies really opened up and we got some real rain! I was thrilled to see it as we surely needed a good drenching to help bring our fire danger down a little and help those creeks and streams a bit. THIS IS IT: FAIR TIME--I hope the raindrops stay away for the last three days of this coming week, as it's time for the 110th Annual Wahkiakum County...

Most stores have programs where you can purchase and donate items for kids who can’t afford to buy their own supplies. A great way to give, and help out kids. Westend news: More great veggies, fruits and bak...

More sun and dry weather is scheduled for this week, so once again, we should be mindful of fire danger, conserving our water sources and keeping ourselves and our pets hydrated and safe from too much sun. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Aug. 9-15 are Marsha Helms, Treasure Collupy, Judy Smith, Tim Schmitz,...

Jean says between the two of them, they volunteered 100 hours last July alone. As for this year, "the biggest thing was getting the bull riders here,"...

In the month of July search and rescue crews responded to an average of one unmanned-adrift paddlecraft in the Puget Sound region every day, and now the Coast Guard seeks the help of all owners of kayaks, canoes and other paddlecraft to label their vessel with essential contact information. Every unmanned-adrift paddlecraft is treated as a potential distress situation, however, when the craft is properly labelled the situation can often be quickly resolved with a phone call to the vessel owner, which minimizes personnel fatigue and negative imp...

"National Night Out is a social event held every...
HOT ENOUGH?--When it's 76 degrees by 10 a.m., here in West Valley, I know it's going to be a warm one. I am sure the heat lovers are rejoicing but I opted to hide in the basement this last Sunday, as I had gotten toasty enough just trying to get the morning water chores accomplished. However, as Monday morning showed up, we awoke to moisture. I could hardly believe it! While other areas were still sunny and dry, we got that marine layer in and it was quite wet, which certainly made my plants and lawn happy, so I'm not complaining. This sudden...
