DAMP BEGINNING--As the week began Sunday morning, we had some light rainfall which was most welcomed by all those who received it. When it falls real lightly after a long, dry spell, it's really good as it gets a chance to soak in and not just run off and do little to help the parched lawns and surrounding fields, so it was just perfect. New research shows how accelerated melting of glaciers in the Cascade Mountain Range could dwindle late summer stream flows in decades to come, taking previous work on glacial melt to a new level. It was the luck of the Irish if you made it to the Skamokawa Grange last Saturday night. The Mícheál Ó Domhnaill Oregon Branch of Comhaltas was there, and they held a céilí, a traditional Irish social gathering filled with music, dancing, and a potluck dinner. SMOKY START--As this week began, it was a pretty smoky Sunday morning, and forecasters say that we'll have more of that until mid-week. Fifteen individuals ran a rerouted Bald Eagles Day 5k/2-mile fun run on July 21 because of construction occurring on the Puget Island Bridge. Participants ran behind town, past the museum, through the marina and braved a small stretch on the highway before turning around and retracing their steps back to the Cathlamet Pharmacy for the finish.
