    The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now considering nominations for lands to be included in the state Community Forest Trust. Local communities interested in having lands included in the Community Forest Trust need to file the request for nominations form by June 2, 2014.   • Corps seeks public comment on Caspian tern nesting habitat reduction

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public comments on its draft environmental assessment of Caspian tern habitat reduction on East Sand Island in the Columbia River estuary near Chinook. The Corps proposes to reduce the Caspian tern nesting area on East Sand Island from 1.58 to 1.08 acres to decrease the number of nesting pairs on the island and reduce tern predation on endangered juvenile salmon and steelhead. The desired reduction in nesting pairs is in response to unexpectedly high nesting density exhibited by terns at the colony....

    On Thursday, January 9, six Naselle High School Knowledge Bowl teams participated in an ESD 113 Knowledge Bowl meet at Westwood Baptist Church in Olympia. Forty two different teams from 10 different schools participated in the meet. There were 14 teams from 1A schools, 18 from 2B schools, and 10 from the 1B classification.
