Fire safety fun "to-go" at National Night Out 2025

Come join the Puget Island Fire Department for National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Introduced in 1984, the first National Night Out started through a network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation.

Locally, this annual nationwide event is organized with the support of the Puget Island Fire Department and Auxiliary. This will be the eighth year that Wahkiakum County has participated, with kids’ games, a raffle, hot dogs and root beer floats in support of fire and neighborhood safety.

This event is an opportunity to grow community and awareness of the role that public services play in the area. Along with the fire department, you’ll be able to meet representatives from the Cathlamet Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Department. They’ll be sharing information about fire safety - for both kids and adults - including how to put together your own emergency “to go” bag in case of evacuation.

So mark your calendars for Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Puget Island Fire Station on SR-409. Whether you're new to Wahkiakum County or a longtime Puget Island resident, this event is a great chance to see friends, meet neighbors and interact with your local fire, police and emergency medical teams around fun and games. Everyone can participate and a few extra hands on the day are always welcome. Remember, when we come together as a community, great things happen. See you at the National Night Out.
