U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers free safety checks

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 71 will be conducting free vessel safety checks on March 17, from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. at the Elochoman Marina in Cathlamet.

A vessel safety check is a courtesy examination to verify the presence and condition of certain safety equipment required by state and federal regulations. The vessel examiner is a trained specialist and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. They will make recommendations and discuss safety issues.

This is not a law enforcement issue and no citations will be given as a result of this encounter. Boaters will be given a copy of the evaluation so they may follow some of the suggestions given. Vessels that pass will be able to display the VSC decal.
