What's Happening at the Fair?

February 4, 2010

Have you got your tickets yet? The 3rd Annual Valentine’s Diamond dinner is quickly approaching with tickets selling like hotcakes. Held on February 13 at the Skamokawa Grange from 6 p.m., tickets are only $25 and include a delicious bacon wrapped filet mignon, wine and dessert. As an added bonus each ticket holder will also receive a raffle ticket, so what are you waiting for, contact the ticket hotline at 360-849-0001 or stop in at the Lower Columbia Realty or Bank of the Pacific offices in Cathlamet.

This year we’re aiming to dazzle, offering a stunning black and white diamond heart shaped pendant (pictured above) as the grand prize. We’ll also have other fantastic prizes donated by local businesses including a fantastic scent package from Scentsy consultant Lisa Frink as well as an original Becky Ledtke designed necklace. So bring your sweetheart and prepare to be pampered as this year’s food, entertainment and prizes will sweep you off your feet!

Each year, hundreds of volunteers step forward and create our unique and wonderful fair, helping exhibitors and attendees alike to experience what it means to live in Wahkiakum. With the budget cuts and projected state cuts for 2011, now more than ever, we need the support of the community.

The fair board and especially our new president Becky Ledtke have been working flat out in an effort to save money and concentrate on delivering an incredible experience at this summer’s 102nd fair. Together we hope to stretch the budget and continue in our cost savings programs. Last year we made a lot of progress, reducing our ribbon costs by almost 50 percent and cutting staff costs by utilizing volunteers.

The next board meeting will be February 10 in the 3rd floor meeting room of the courthouse. The public is always welcome to attend.

In an effort to cut costs and stay within our budget the fair office will now be open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds please contact the fair office 360-795-3480 or leave a message on my cell phone 360-355-7743.
