James F. Wishon

 


James Frank Wishon , 68, of Cathlamet, passed away Feb. 22, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center in Longview. Jim was born on August 22, 1943 in Portland, Ore. to Hugh and Eva (Waldron) Wishon. Jim grew up in Missouri graduating from Princeton High School in 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation and spent 23 years serving his country. Jim was stationed in Viet Nam and on Guam. He was on several air craft carriers and ended his career as Master Chief Aviation Ordnance Man, retiring in 1984.

After moving to Cathlamet, Jim managed the Nassa Point Motel and worked at Marv’s Chevron before joining the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department as a corrections officer. He then joined the force as a deputy Sheriff, which he did from 1992-1997. On June 20, 1990, he married Carolynn Elliott. Jim joined the LDS Church in 1991 and after retirement he and Carolynn moved to Mena, Ark., where he served as Branch President for five years. He was active in the Church and worked at the Oklahoma City Temple for two years. In 2005 they returned to Cathlamet. Jim loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting, photography and mechanic work. He is survived by his wife Carolynn, a step daughter Cara Luce, three step sons, Henry (Andrea), Mark (Amee) and Tracy (Felicitie) Elliott.

Also surviving him are his mother Eva Wishon, a sister Aleta Stantruff (John), brother Larry Wishon (Glenda), nine beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Tyra, Austin, Bryce, Morgan, Macie, Landon, Greydon and Emma. Jim leaves behind a large extended family. A funeral service was held February 24 at the 30th Ave. branch of the LDS Church in Longview.

Private interment took place at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to Community Hospice, P.O. Box 2076, Longview, WA 98632.
