What’s the exciting Fair news for this week? The Wahkiakum County Fair will receive State Fair Funding for our 2012 Fair!

A good sized crew of volunteers have compiled 632 volunteer hours in the last three months working at the Fairgrounds on projects. We have worked well together and accomplished many projects. Many thanks to Ed Stevens, Barb Czarnecki, Georgie Billings, Bill Chamberlain, Bryan Ledtke, Becky Ledtke, Makenzie Stevens, Chuck Gaines and Stuart Bosch for working in some very wet weather to get some major projects done. We can always use more help, never hesitate to email me or call the fair office if you have some time you can volunteer. If you need to work some community service hours, we can help you complete those hours too!

Our new bleachers will be delivered around April 18-20 to the Fairgrounds. A lot of site preparation work had to be done last week in spite of the rain to get the area ready. First the refrigerators and freezers on the stage had to be moved back into the big food booth. Then I measured and staked out where the bleachers would sit. The sod was removed from the area by Bill Chamberlain operating his backhoe, then Ed Stevens cleaned up the site with our tractor, typar was rolled out on the bare ground and gravel 6” deep filled in over the typar. The bleachers come unassembled so here we go again, another big project we are going to be tackling!

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board will have a booth at Bald Eagle Day to sell fair passes and firewood raffle tickets. If you had trouble finding passes last year, just stop by the booth and we will have them available for you to purchase!

The Fairgrounds Park has a new water faucet! Bill Chamberlain and Ed Stevens installed over 200 feet of water line and a faucet to provide water to the covered area by the brick barbecue. This is a nice addition to the water system for our campers to use or incase of fire we now have water in that area. Commissioner Blair Brady generously donated $100 toward the project supplies of pipe and fittings. Joan Everson, Chuck Gaines, Stuart Bosch also helped get this project completed.

There is a new rule in the Fair Book that professional exhibitors will need to take a look at. You will be considered a professional exhibitor if you derive 25 percent or more of your income from the work you are exhibiting at our Fair.

Time to plan a used book and rummage sale! The Wahkiakum County Fair used book and rummage sale will be open on Saturday April 21st , from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the T-building, at the Fairgrounds in Skamokawa. All proceeds from sales will maintain and support your 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair! Stop by Saturday, look over our new bleachers as they are getting assembled and take a sack full of new treasures and books home!
