Library hours to change July 23

In an effort to balance the budget and also accommodate customer needs, effective July 23 the Blanche Bradley Memorial Library will be closed Mondays. Opening hours on Wednesdays will shift from 6-7:30 p.m. to 1-4 p.m.

The new schedule is Tuesday and Friday 2-5 p.m. and Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 1-4 p.m.

Hours will be reevaluated in 2013 when the library remodel is complete.

Vendor's Market to

raise funds for grange

Skamokawa Grange #425 will hold their Vista Vendor's Market fund raiser on July 28 at Skamokawa Vista Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It will feature arts, crafts, jewelry, a working blacksmith, train rides, raffles and more. There will also be food items to eat there or to take home.

All monies earned go towards restoring and maintaining the Skamokawa Grange building.

Local student graduates from Evergreen College

Vaughn Steven Ellis, son of Richard Beck and Lee Ellis of Puget Island graduated from Evergreen State College on June 15 with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree.

Ellis is a 2008 graduate of Wahkiakum High School and is currently employed as a lifeguard at the Julia Butler Hansen Municipal Pool. He plans to take a year off before enrolling in graduate school.

St. James Family Center has the following classes lined up for its Youth Adventure Program for this week:

Woolspinning - July 23-25, 10-11:30 a.m., ages eight and up, $4.

Mini-Cheer Clinic - July 23, 1-2:30 p.m., ages five and up, $10.

Krumkake, July 24, 2-3 p.m., ages eight and up, $3.

Marine and Water Safety, July 25, 2-3 p.m., ages five to nine, free.

Field trip to Rainbow Trout Farm, July 26, leave 9 a.m., return 5 p.m., ages five and up, $12.

Junior High Football August 20

Junior High Football practice starts August 20 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a mandatory parent meeting to follow. Athletes will be required to have proof of insurance, current physical, and current concussion waiver form before the athlete can practice. Yacht Club raffles

off handmade skiff The Cathlamet Yacht Club is offering the chance to win a hand-crafted Devlin Design skiff built by Michael Baccellieri of Welcome Slough Boatworks.

The rowing skiff measures 9'8" with a beam of 3'8", weighs 52 lbs and was built with #1088 British Standard Hydro Tech Marine Plywood with hull exterior and interior fiberglass finish. All the cedar and fir lumber was cut and milled on Puget Island and donated by Henry Blankinship.

The yacht club is selling $1 raffle tickets for its annual fund raiser. Proceeds from the raffle support club projects which include public water safety. Tickets can be purchased at the following events:

• Bald Eagle Days- July 21, 22 on Cathlamet Main Street/ Elochoman Marina.

• Vista Market- July 28, Vista Park, Skamokawa.

• Wahkiakum County Fair-August 18, Skamokawa.

• Longboard Races-Main Street, Cathlamet, August 24-26.

• Buzzard Breath Cookoff-September 1, Elochoman Marina.

Gallery celebrates first anniversary

On July 20, from 6-8 p.m., the Tsuga Gallery will have a first Anniversary Celebration.

To start the Bald Eagle Days festivities at the Gallery on Friday evening there will be live music by Hidden River, and refreshments. The featured artists have updated their gallery exhibits so there will be new art to view.

The gallery will be selling raffle tickets during Bald Eagle Days for a piece of woodwork art donated by member Frank Loomans. The piece is a life-size wooden golden retriever which will be on display starting Friday. Tickets are $1.

The gallery now has approximately 30 members, all from Wahkiakum County and immediately adjacent areas who create original fine art in a wide range of mediums. Books by local authors are also available.

The gallery is located at 70 Main Street in Cathlamet.
