Gary John Garr, 71 of Cathlamet, left this world for the next on October15,2012 at OHSU in Portland,Ore.

He was born in Billings Mont., on June 4,1941 to John M. and Ethel B. (Tenny) Garr . He grew up in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1959, also, graduating with honors from Eastern College in Billings. In 1963 Gary joined the Army where he spent six years. On November 4,1968 he married Janice Butts and they had their only child, his beloved daughter Diane Marie Garr before they later divorced. He worked for the US Postal Service in Missoula before moving to Seattle where he worked for the Veterans Administration for 22 years, retiring in 1997. Gary received many performance awards while working for the V.A.

In 2003, Gary made his retirement home in lovely Cathlamet where he resided until his passing. Surviving him are his daughter Diane Garr and husband Jason of Billings and three grandsons, Daniel, Scott and Kevin Garr. He was preceded by his parents and an uncle, Everett Garr.

A funeral and viewing will be held on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Chapel in Cathlamet and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 29 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
