Brewery partner explains need for new building

To The Eagle:

First I would like to thank Debbie Kuller for her letter to the editor two weeks ago wondering why the Drop Anchor Brewery did not choose an empty space on Main street Cathlamet. It has been wonderful that so many local citizens have supported our new business venture. First let me say we at Drop Anchor are very excited to bring this business to our community. We hope that we can add to our tax base, create a few jobs, and bring more visitors to our County.

Debbie we looked at every building and open space in the Cathlamet area hoping to be able to move into an existing location. We had several requirements to meet Federal, State and Local Regulations to open our brewery. Unfortunately the existing buildings either they were too small, no loading area, no floor drains, ceiling height was too low for our brew tanks, and a location to make it easy for customers coming by boat to visit our town.

We had even thought about buying some land and constructing a building ourselves but the out of pocket expense was just too much for our investment group. Opening a brewery is quite expensive and the return on investment will take a couple of years. So we were unable to build our own building.

We are very excited that the port stepped up and used some of their vacant land to bring this business to our port and community. I know some people do not understand that we have a port with a marina in it but it still functions as a port with it's main mission is Economic Development for the community it serves. Adding the Brewery not only fits with the ports mission statement but also will create more business for the Marina.

More information about the Drop Anchor Brewery will be coming out soon. To find out about how someone can join the "Founders Club" Visit our web site http://www.dropanchorbrewery.com or our facebook page.
