To The Eagle:
My name is Lynda Gerlach, 25 year resident of Cathlamet, parent of WHS graduates and newly retired from the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce.
We have two fine men running for the position of Wahkiakum County Sheriff, both whom I have known for quite some time. It is my belief that Sheriff Mark Howie has shown that he possesses the experience, education and leadership qualities to continue as Sheriff of Wahkiakum County. He exhibited these qualities first as a local business and property owner, then as Sheriff. Working with him many times in tasks related to the safety of our town and people, I found Mark to be a man of integrity, whose word is his bond. Mark took seriously concerns I had approached him with and resolved those issues in a timely manner.
Although not born in Wahkiakum County, I have children that were born here and we will always have a spot in our heart for this place. Likewise, Sheriff Howie was not born here, but has made this his home and to the best of his ability “strives to serve our community with professionalism and dignity with the knowledge that those we serve include our own family, friends, and partners who live and work in this beautiful county.”
