Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 21 – 10:41 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported the theft of blank checks. 12:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a resident who had fallen. 2:49 p.m. A caller reported that a door at the Puget Island Fire Hall was open and no one was around. 4 p.m. A caller reported neglected animals on Puget Island. 4:40 p.m. A motorist reported an erratic driver heading westbound on SR 4; state patrol was advised. 10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a young woman with chest pain.

October 22 -- 12:36 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that someone was knocking on his window. 1:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident with a complication due to diabetes. 7:14 a.m. A caller reported seeing a flare on the river just west of County Line Park; the Coast Guard was notified. Columbia County took over the search. 10:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who felt weak and was coughing up blood. 11:22 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island resident who had lost consciousness. 11:49 a.m. An Elochoman resident reported being harassed by a group of teen males who were driving back and forth in front of the residence and yelling. 8:02 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported receiving a threatening message. 9:30 p.m. A caller reported a disabled vehicle on SR 4 near County Line Park; state patrol was notified. 10:37 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported hearing noises; a deputy responded.

October 23 – 8:25 a.m. A caller reported a cow on the roadway in the Elochoman Valley. 10:49 a.m. A West Valley resident reported that he had heard shots fired and a loud bang the night before and had thought nothing of it. In the morning he found a bullet on his living room floor; a deputy investigated and determined it was the work of a hunter or poacher a great distance away from the home. 3:36 p.m. A caller reported that there were three abandoned cats at a Rosedale residence that was being torn down. 7:58 p.m. A Grays River resident called to report being harassed.

October 24 – 3:40 a.m. An alarm went off at a residence near Flandersville; a deputy investigated and found nothing. 10:03 a.m. A caller reported that a child’s e-reader had been stolen from the locker room at the school. 10:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Middle Valley resident that was ill. 12:56 p.m. A caller reported a dead deer on the side of Hungry Highway. 1:06 p.m. A caller reported squatters on property in Skamokawa. 4:29 p.m. A Cathlamet business called to report a disturbance; a deputy responded. 7:34 p.m. A residential alarm went off at a home near Flandersville; deputies responded.

October 25 – 6:10 a.m. A Rosedale resident called to report problem with neighborhood dogs; a deputy was advised. 4:55 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a Puget Island resident. 4:58 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported the theft of fuel from vehicles. 7:19 p.m. A non-injury one vehicle traffic accident was reported near the entrance to the school on SR 4; a deputy responded. 11:38 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported hearing shots fired.

October 26 – 1:46 p.m. A Grays River resident reported a theft. 1:46 p.m. A caller reported that a man riding a bicycle was dropping scrap metal onto the roadway on Puget Island. 4:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a location near Brookfield to aid a rider who had fallen while bicycling. 9:02 p.m. A caller reported an altercation at the high school and that one subject refused to leave; several deputies responded.

October 27 – 5:44 p.m. A caller reported seeing a man mining scrap iron on private property on Puget Island; a deputy responded and was unable to locate the subject.

October 28 – A motorist reported a dead dear in the westbound lane of traffic near Nassa Point on SR 4.
