Dorothy Elaine Tawater, 87, of Longview, died May 18 at the Canterbury Gardens. She was born to Lloyd and Clara Gilbertson on April 21, 1927 in Otranto, Iowa. She was one of three children. Her sister Shirley and brother Don preceded her in death.

After she graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Iowa in 1945, she married William B. Tawater and they made their home in Redwood City, CA for over 50 years. Bill preceded her in death in 1983. In 2001 Dorothy moved to Cathlamet to be with her son and his family. She enjoyed life as a wife, mom and homemaker and was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Redwood City.

She is survived by her two sons, Bill Tawater of Cathlamet, and Steve Tawater of Hamilton, Mont .; and a daughter, Barbara Widmann of Calif .; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a niece.

A private family service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Colma, Calif. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to Wahkiakum Search and Rescue, P.O. Box 65, Cathlamet,WA 98612. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
