Titans crush Mules 41-6

The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley Titans pounded the Wahkiakum Mules for a 41-6 Central League football game Friday in Cathlamet.

The Titans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Jason Fluke scored on a 5-yard run at 10:41 of the first quarter and Robert Espina kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead. The Titans then returned a Mule punt 45 yards for another touchdown and a 13-0 lead. Aidan Arrington intercepted a Gunnar Blix pass and ran it to the Mule 12-yard line, and Trevor Cook scored on a 10-yard run. Arrington ran the conversion, and the Titans led 21-0 at 5:40 of the first quarter.

The visitors added four scores in the second quarter to lead 41-0 at halftime.

The Mules got on the scoreboard with 7:07 left in the fourth quarter. Blix scored on a 3-yard run. The conversion kick failed, and the final score was 41-6.

The Mules gained 22 yards rushing and 97 yards passing. Budd picked up 37 yards on the ground, Blix 24, Brady LaBerge 19 and Hank Ferguson 17. Blix completed four of nine passes with one interception.

Leading the defense were Blix with 16 tackles, Ferguson with eight, and Budd with seven.

The Titans piled up 389 yards of rushing and didn't pass the ball.

The small Mule squad suited up 17 players for the game and at one time had six underclassmen on the offensive line.

"The kids with injuries will be back this week, and we'll gain a couple who will become eligible," Coach Eric Hansen said. "So, it will get better."

The Titans evened their season record at 2-2. The Mules fell to 1-3; they play Morton/White Pass next Friday.
