Community picnic, potluck set for July 26

Down River Dispatches

My apologies to the readers for not getting a column in for the last couple of weeks and my thanks to all those who called to inquire if everything was ok. We are fine, but sometimes we have to step back a bit and get our priorities in order. Health and family has to come first, and hopefully everything else will fall into place.

News from Naselle

Mochas & More coffee and goodie shop, located at the corner of SR 4 and 401 in Naselle, has been closed for a few weeks, but now that Laura is on the mend it looks like she will be in full swing once again real soon. Check out her delicious menu and enjoy a hot or cold drink. Glad to hear you are doing better, Laura.

Westend News

I know everyone is looking forward to a fun weekend in Cathlamet with Bald Eagle Days festivities. Check out all the fun events, music and fireworks. Be safe and have a great time.

Next weekend the Johnson Park Advisory Board will provide barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs as well a condiments at our annual community picnic/potluck. It will be held on July 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring the whole family, a dish to share and enjoy a relaxing afternoon, listen to some local music, visit with your neighbors, play a game of baseball or Frisbie. You can bring your own non alcoholic beverages and we will also have pop and water for sale. Hope to see you there. We may even have a visit from the residents of Donkey Holler.

The Free Friday Night movie in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is rated R for mature audiences and is a 2015 release. Synopsis: Juggling some angry Russians, our hero, Charlie Mortdecai must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

The annual pig roast/potluck and campout is on again this year at the Toftemark home located in Rosburg. After a three year hiatus, there is much to celebrate with them, especially an introduction to their newly adopted son, Elmer. Everyone is welcome; bring a dish or two to share as there is usually a huge crowd, lots of kids, and tons of fun. The pig will be roasted and ready on Saturday afternoon, August 1, time to be determined by the pig.

By the way, this pig roast weekend is always a celebration of Poul and Zenaida’s wedding anniversary as well. Help this generous and very special couple celebrate.

The Grays River Valley Library and Computer Center is open Tuesday through Saturday 1-4 p.m. with free internet, and usually no waiting for a computer. Bring your own computer if you prefer.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious meal cooked and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.

On Thursdays, CAP also sponsors a senior lunch at the same location. Lunch is served at noon for both meals.
